NEWS ‘N NOTES

 

There will be no Visitor’s Luncheon on July 6 due to the holiday weekend.

 

We want to welcome Robin Whisenhunt to the fellowship here at Western Heights! Robin comes to us from the church at Leonard. She lives at 914 W. Morton in Denison, 75020, phone 903-463-2165. Robin has 2 children -  Diana and Sam. She has been assigned to Shepherd Lunch Group #3.

 

Our sympathy is extended to Reg Smith on the passing of his aunt, Leoata Allen, 96, this past week. Funeral services were last Friday in Mabank, TX.

 

Angel Food – Orders are now being taken for July. Deadline to order is July 13.

 

Angel Food Ministries needs ten families, individuals, or Bible classes to purchase a box of Angel Food, supporting a client of the Texoma Area Agency on Aging.  If you are able to contribute, make your $31 check payable to Western Heights.

 

Two of our young people, Dora Crocker and Heather Long, are students at Harding and will be spending their fall semester in Kolomo, Zambia. One of their missions will be to teach and administer preventative health care. If you would like to assist them in bringing medical supplies to Zambia, there is a list of needs and a box in the foyer.

 

Please pray for our mission team members that are in Anáhauc.  They will return Saturday, July 5.  Pray for their safety and effectiveness of the mission.

Brochures are available on the credenza for the 45th. Pan American Lectureship, to be held in Quito, Ecuador, November 1-8. This will be sponsored by the Jackson St. Church of Christ in Monroe, LA.

Evelyn Jones, had surgery last week at WNJ, has been discharged.

Caleb Akins, had adenoidectomy and tubes put in his ears last week at WNJ. 

Neal Gardner Smith, 16, and his father Bryan Smith, both recovering at home after kidney transplant surgery in Charlotte, NC. Neal is the nephew of Patsy Neal and Brenda Sampson.

Larry Hughes, brother-in-law of Ky Longley, complications from a fall, surgery.

Ofelia Zorrilla, Barry Zorrilla’s mother, health problems.

Larry Richards, nephew of Myrtle Thomason, leukemia, has been at MD Anderson since February, needs a bone marrow transplant.

Frank Smith, dad of Janet Armstrong & Kenneth Smith, at Reba’s Rehab.

Lois Banker, had surgery at Presbyterian, will begin chemo soon.

Ray Eller, father of Ron Eller, radiation treatments for a brain tumor.

Hervie Lewis of Glen Rose, brother of Jay, throat tumor, began treatment.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

 

Teen Praise Time

                There will be a TPT for all of our 7-12 grade students on Sunday night, July 6.  Please bring $2 for our meal. We will finish around 9.

 

The Ultimate Tea Party

                All the ladies in Junior High and High School are cordially invited to a tea party at 2:00 p.m. on July 8 in the FLC. This little party is just for us girls and it will entail a little bit of girl time mixed with tea, baking, and service!

                Wednesday, July 9, after devotional we will stick around and play some games or whatnot in the FLC. We will stay up here until about 10:00 p.m. so make plans to stay, play games, and goof off with the youth group.

 

Thursday Prayer Luncheon

                There will be a Thursday Prayer Luncheon July 10. It will be from 12-1:30 p.m. at the church. Be sure to bring a sack lunch. 

 

Super Soak Down Day

                Get ready for one of the most awesome/ultimate days of the summer! Following the Prayer Luncheon July 10, we’ll go outside for SSDD and have a slip-n-slide, play water balloon dodge ball, and many more waterful games! Don’t miss this wacky wet day! We should finish around 2:30. This is for both junior high and high school.

 

ICHTHUS Staff

                ICHTHUS Staff: we will be leaving the church at 1:30 pm, Saturday, July 12. We will arrive at the camp grounds around 2:00 for counselor and staff orientation.

 

ICHTHUS

                Camper registration is at 3:00 pm, Sunday, July 13, for those who have signed up to be campers at ICHTHUS. The bus will leave the building Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. We will leave camp around 10:00 am on Friday, July 18.

 

Parents of 7-12th Graders

                Please sign up at the Youth Activities Table if you would like to help host a Teen Praise Time this summer.  Dates for the Praise Times are on the sign up sheet.  You can host these at your home or at the building.  For questions, call Rusty.

 

Dinner with our Interns

                We’d like to give our interns an opportunity to get to meet our congregation.  One way to do that is for members to invite them over for dinner.  You can invite them to your house or take them out.  Please sign up at the credenza and then work out a time to get with them.       

 

PRESCHOOL NEWS

 

The Western Heights Preschool is currently enrolling students for the 2008-2009 school year.  Please see Evelyn Jones or Karla Colwell for more information.
